Developed in-house at Datature, IntelliBrush is an AI-assisted labelling tool that completely changes how people labels images.

Long gone are the days when you can only use rectangles to label your objects or have to spend half a day tracing the outlines of your target objects. With IntelliBrush, you can achieve pixel-perfect mask outlines with just a few clicks.

Simply select regions that are in or out of interest, IntelliBrush will 'learn' and get more precise with every click you make. It helps label complex objects 10x Faster and save you a ton of time.

Getting Started with IntelliBrush

Selecting IntelliBrush

Select IntelliBrush by navigating to the right hand panel and clicking on IntelliBrush (or using the keybind T).

Intelli-Settings

With Intelli-Settings, you will be able to specify the level of granularity depending on the kind of image that you are labelling. Adaptive mode is recommended if your image has multiple objects of interest within frame. Full-image is recommended if your image has 1 - 2 main objects of interest.

Making Annotations

IntelliBrush creates a mask outline of the region of interest when you left-click in within the desired object.

To start, left-click in the middle of the desired region to insert a positive marker. A green marker will appear and a mask will be generated. The more central you click and the more contiguous the region you are trying to select, the better the accuracy of the mask created.

Refining Annotations

There may be occurrences where the mask created contains regions that should not be part of the mask. To correct the mask, all you need to do is to right-click within the incorrect region to insert a negative marker. A red marker will appear and the mask will be refined to avoid the region around the red marker.

You can also use our new Intelligent Tool, AI Edge Refinement, to harness the power and efficiency of machine learning to tightly bound your masks precisely to the object you are trying to annotate.

Using Image Settings for Annotating

You can now change image settings to assist in your annotation. Through changing the contrast, brightness, and saturation of an image, certain features or objects in an image may become more distinct or obvious. IntelliBrush takes these changes into account to better facilitate your ability to navigate image settings with industrial knowledge. As you click positive and negative points during an annotation, you can also change the image settings and IntelliBrush will adapt to the image setting at the time of your most recent click.

Committing Annotations

Once you are satisfied with the mask, you can commit the annotation by pressing Spacebar. This creates the mask based on the tag that is currently selected.

Creating Bounding Boxes using IntelliBrush

IntelliBrush also supports the creation of bounding boxes for detection models to speed up the bounding box drawing process as it allows you to not have to click as accurately. All you need to do is to select Box Mode at the bottom right of the image once IntelliBrush is selected before clicking on the regions of interest.
